SPRITS OF OAKWOOD

Sheryl Chester is portraying one of the more than 100 Black people buried in the Black section of the Oakwood Cemetery during the Sprits of Oakwood reenactment on March 29th. The exact number buried in the black section is unknown due to a 1930s improvement project by Mrs. Henry Eagle. Eagles improvements included plowing and leveling the black section of the cemetery removing all but three grave markers. March 19, 2008 Photo By Tom Turner
